Cerambycidae family

The longhorn beetles (Cerambycidae) are known as such because of their extremely long antennae, often exceeding the length of the beetle’s body. There are 20,000 species known to man and some have become serious pests due to the larvae’s insatiable appetite for living trees or the wood found in houses. For example, the Asian long-horned beetle (Anoplophora glabripennis) has been accidentally released in North America and is taken quite seriously. However, longhorn beetles are also very much appreciated by collectors and species such as the giant Titanus giganeus from South America can grow up to 17cm and Rosenbergia species from the Pacific islands could make world famous designers envious.
